How the Rubric Generator works
This AI rubric maker helps you build grading rubrics based on an existing assignment prompt or rubric. Paste your assignment or rubric and the tool sends it to Claude, which sends back a complete, editable grading rubric ready to import into Canvas.
When working from an assignment, you can:
- Define your own criteria.
- Fine-tune points for each level.
- Or use AI to generate a complete rubric directly from your assignment prompt.
- Download the rubric as an imscc file, which can be easily imported into Canvas.
When working from an existing rubric, Claude will preserve your verbiage exactly and simply reformat the content into a usable table for Word, Excel, or Canvas upload. You still have the opportunity to edit the rubric fields before downloading.
The tool is well suited for essays, discussions, presentations, or any written assignment.
The first rubric is free with no strings attached. After that, sign in for up to 10 per day. Power users and instructional designers will want a paid Sheetbend account, which has no daily limit.
Note
Your assignment prompt or rubric is sent to Claude to generate the rubric. Since it goes through the API, it is not used for training. My server never stores or even sees your content. For more information, read my Privacy policy.
