How to import topics from source documents

Import individual topics from Word documents into Sheetbend.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you...

  • Are using a Chromium-based browser (for example, Chrome, Edge, Opera, or Brave).
  • Are signed in to Sheetbend.
  • Have a Word doc handy that contains multiple ideas you want to import as individual topics.

Steps

  1. Go to the Sources tab.
  2. Click Select a Word document…
  3. Select one or more documents.
  4. Click the Extract topics link to the right of the document you want to work with. If there are headings in the document, Sheetbend will ask you to help decide which headings are most useful for finding breaks between topics.
  5. Click the Extract… button in the dialog box that appears.
  6. Review the suggested topics:
    • To see the content of the topic, click Show content.
    • To make changes (if desired), type in the content box.
    • To merge topics, click Join with next.
    • To break the topic up at a given heading level, use the Split at option.
  7. Click Save n topics to Library once you are satisfied with the topics that will be imported.

Results

Your new topics will now be available on the Compose tab and on the Topics tab.

After one document is processed, you'll see the list of Sources again. Here you can either click Extract topics for a source that hasn't been processed yet, or click Compose to go to the Compose tab.
